Did you know? The Midan Quarter became the extension of Damascus Old City outside the wall in he 12th century. As the city grew in that period, people started to settle south of the wall in the open fields that were traditionally the gathering place of pilgrims heading to Mecca. The name “Midan”, meaning “Open Space” in Arabic, was given to this new extension of Damascus. Today, the Midan Quarter has lost many of its past monuments, but there are still few to be seen among the new buildings....
